Case Studies
South Molton Community College – Textiles and LRC Block
Heat Radiation worked with Skinner Construction on this new build construction of a standalone block, the aim of which was to create a new home for the Textiles classroom and a Learning Resource Centre.
Working alongside consultant engineers Norse Group and our key sub-contractors and supply chain we were able to deliver a high specification install on time that met the specific time scales required by the College. The install brought together Air Source Heat Pumps and Underfloor heating to work alongside Natural Ventilation Heat Recovery units to provide a low Carbon, highly efficient approach to heating and cooling the building.
The specific challenge of integrating the NVHR units and associated ductwork into the architectural aspects of the building was overcome with our install team working closely with multiple other trades to create a clean modern looking finish that complement the aesthetic of the building.
The finished building was warmly received by the college, and we were proud to be part of helping to deliver them this great new facility.
Replacing and upgrading various fan convectors
Heat Radiation were contracted by Somerset County Council to be the Principal Contractor to replace various fan convectors within the school as they were over 20 years old and were not achieving their full capacity and were very inefficient.
The old fan convectors were removed and installed with new fan convectors manufactured by SPC-HVAC. Pipework modifications were needed as the new fan convectors did not match the existing. This was no problem for our experienced and well-equipped engineers.
All power and control wiring were completed in house by our new electrical department. All this was in full compliance with the current 18th edition wiring regulations. Each fan convector has now been fitted and controlled via their own thermostat.
Our engineers handed the project back to the school with a new and improved heating system which they can now start to feel the benefits.
Heat Radiation were employed by Ken Biggs to carry out a heating system renovation together with new MVHR units to suit the new layout of both the Sixth Form Centre & Link study Areas.
With a condensed programme and key end of term dates to meet, Heat Radiation worked in close collaboration with the mechanical consultants, Design Foundry & LED architects to deliver and build a high spec scheme with Ken Biggs leading the way within the short time scales the team had.
One brief from the client was to create a modern industrial look to the common rooms, which was an opportunity for us to showcase our quality installation, with traditional screwed steel pipework, ventilation units & ducting all being on show. Co-ordination was critical for this project, and we enjoyed creating a more comfortable and controllable environment for the client and end users.
